Park Clean Up

The Earth Action Committee provides tips to live more sustainably encouraging people to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and to participate in outdoor activities and appreciation.

During Fall the Earth Action Committee hosted our first annual Fall Clean-up Day at Sesqui/Kiwanis Parks on Wednesday October 4th at Noon. We had a small but energized group of staff that came out to support us, and we all worked alongside our park staff helping to remove debris in our parks to make them a clean, safe and beautiful place for our residents.

We also coordinated our Annual Pumpkin Collection Event on Friday November 2nd from 9am-2pm, Thanks to all that that support the cause, we had a full truck again this year. Every little bit helps. Composting is nature’s way of recycling with many benefits:

  • Avoids landfill greenhouse gas emissions from decomposing organics (currently, landfills are the 3rd largest producers of methane in the U.S.!)
  • Produces a useful, nutrient-dense soil amendment.
  • Pumpkins are 90% water which is great for our soil, not so good in our landfills
